| While reading about depression and self-treatment cannot always provide the information one needs, many of the books available do provide solutions or point to types of mental health providers that can be of assistance. Whether one is suffering from depression, or one's family or associate is suffering, a gift of a book may be the trigger that can bring about positive change. Health, and mental health is a complex issue and cannot often be dealt with in a simplistic manner, and most of the books that we have read or reviewed do not treat the issue simplistically. Quite often the reader can see echoes of ones own issues in the examples given, and this can point to a direction for self-healing, or to a need for professional counseling. In any case, for those who are suffering, just the knowledge that others have similar problems can provide comfort and direction.
