Getting to Know You![]() The Downtown Development Association wants you to get to know your local businesses. In this tenuous economy, The News Review has an obligation to not just inform, but to promote our retail and service industries as they struggle to survive the economic downturn. For every business that closes its doors, numerous residents will be affected in some way. This includes the News Review. Businesses are our advertisers and pay the majority of the cost for this newspaper. If we didn't have advertisers, we would have to send the extra cost on to you. We all must shop locally and support our business community. In order to support our community the News Review will be featuring local businesses in each issue. We will also be featuring people in our community who support our schools and other projects that benefit our children. These will be a bi-weekly features. We hope you enjoy these changes. |

Motorcycle ShopMoe is not only a business owner here in Small Town, but is an elementary teacher and alumni of our local high school where he played football as a linebacker. Moe married his childhood sweetheart, Elisabeth Heartson, while they were both in college. Elisabeth teaches English at the local middle school and sponsors the middle school Academic Challenge team. Moe opened his motorcycle shop out of love for the sport of racing. He not only sells and repairs motorcycles, but he also builds and races his own motorcycle around the regional circuit. The students from the high school's mechanic classes call him "Rocket Man". He mentors those students and provides an intern program for them after school and summers where they can gain valuable hands-on skills and knowledge. He also helps them find jobs after graduation. Moe was just awarded the prestigious alumni award, The Taggart, for his philanthropic efforts in fundraising for the 2009/2010 season. The funds collected went to the football team for new uniforms, equipment, and a designated bus just for the team for transportation to the away games. |
