Crying Eyes

by C.L. Bruun

I look upon the mountain that I drew with crying eyes.

They looked at me, a five year old, from the easel where it lies.

I must draw a pretty picture for the teacher like she asks,

But all I see is sadness from my kindergarten class.

The mountain's eyes are crying.  The tears run down the slope.

It stands alone in sadness looking down without much hope.

There are no birds that spend their time conversing with the peak.

There are no trees to set their roots, fresh water there to seek.

They sky above is vacant, not a cloud goes drifting by,

To brush its snowy mountain top with gentle winds that sigh

And whisper, "Peak I love you.  I am glad you are my friend."

The tears just flow from lonely eyes, a message that descends...

...To mingle with the river that absorbs the torrent's flow,

Then feeds the plants and animals that share the space below.

I stand alone, a mountain top, and look at life down there,

And wish that there was someone in my life that would just care.
