The Best Beach vacation you've ever had - in a price range you can afford !
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
I used to think that a dream vacation was out of my league. I felt that there was no way I would ever be able to rent that beach house. Well, I was really wrong! While I was traveling through Virginia, I stopped at an Information Center / rest area and started poring over the racks and racks of brochures. I found a rental guide published by one of the local Realtors who specialized in renting beach cottages. I started leafing through the pictures and pages that listed the available rentals. I found that not only did they provide me with all the information I would need to be able to plan for my dream vacation, but pictures of all the units, their individual specifics, like date available, reservations, phone numbers, payment rules and regulations, well, everything I needed was there in the brochure. They listed the In season rates as well as the out of season rates and dates. I found that I could rent a small beach-front cottage for as little as $250.00 per week, to as much as $800.00 per week if I made my reservations as soon as the Realtor indicated they took them, (which for most was January of the year you wanted the cottage.) That meant planning ahead for my vacation. There was usually a 50% down payment with the balance due one month prior to occupancy. No personal checks were taken 30 days prior to the occupancy date. There was about a 10% tax included in the rate.
What was wonderful, most cottages sleep four or more and if you can get some friends to go along, your expenses would be minimal. The end of April, at Virginia Beach, was a nice time to go. It was starting to get warm, yet was still a little cool. The beaches were pretty empty because the regular summer season hadn't started and the kids weren't out of school for summer vacation. The temperatures ranged from 70 up at that time. /they preferred family occupancy, refusing to rent to hoards of college students, but If mature adults rented the cottage for a quiet week of fun and sun, I'm sure there would be no problem. The word here is, they rent to families. Bring the kids along! It's perfect for a family get away! September & October are off seasons along with Spring through May

If you know the town you wish to visit, write or call the local Chamber of Commerce for information. They can send you out a packet of the items you need. Also, Motor Home magazine and several other travel magazines have card inserts which you can send, marking the items of information you are interested in, requesting this information. The information is free, as is the postage on the prepaid postcard.
You can also call the Yellow Page people and order a phone book for the area you are interested in, or look in your local library for phone books of other towns. A travel agency can also help, but remember, they get a cut of the cost so you can save by doing the research and the work yourself. Rest area information centers and other visitor information centers will be glad to help you. They are usually manned during regular business hours, seven days per week. This is a perfect vacation trip for your local singles group or organization. Plan it and let those who want to participate help with the planning and expenses. Car pool to your destinations for added savings. Coolers filled with food saves on eating costs. Using your credit card allows you to spread the cost out over the year, but paying cash is a much better way to go if you can.
