Heartland Songs

by C.L. Bruun

I watch this man

With eyes of trust

That sparkle so

As our souls brush.

The whispered songs

of joy ignite

The flame that burns

Within tonight.

Across his brow

A bead of sweat.

The dust it flies.

The earth is wet.

I hear a stream

That bubbles so,

As he cares for

Each tender row.

He reaches out

His hand to me.

His thoughts reach out

So I can see

The dreams that move

Across his mind

And live within

His heart, I find.

and then he smiles

That look of youth,

Of trust, respect,

And love and truth.

So there we sit

Amid God's world

And watch his

Handiwork unfurl.
