Financial Crisis for Middle-age
Women

One of the saddest repercussions of broken marriages or the death of a spouse is the disparity of incomes between men and women after-wards.
Many middle aged women, who have devoted their
lives to their families, are finding themselves thrust into the role as the only
bread winner in the home. Many neglected pursuing a career, choosing to stay at
home and raise their children. Their present work skills will provide only
minimum wage jobs at best.
For the woman who's children are all grown there
is little help, forcing more and more women to pool their resources in an
attempt at providing an adequate standard of living. Many woman simply can't
afford to live alone. More and more are opting for roommates. As this problems
spreads the concerns multiply.
"Women Helping Women, "is becoming a
cry in the dark, that sparks a flame of hope. More women, realizing their
desperate plight are banding together to pool their resources. Women are
investing as a group, cutting costs by forming co-ops, helping each other out
with day care, even buying homes and sharing the cost as a group. This new
concept works well when three or four women pool their buying power, purchase a
three or four bedroom home, and then share the expenses of furnishing it. Their
standard of living is greatly improved due to the ability of the group to create
aesthetic surroundings that one person could never accomplish alone. Should one
participant remarry or leave the co-op, their share of the house is either
bought up by the others or purchased by someone wishing to participate in the
co-op.
There is even a lending co-op being used on an
experimental basis. It serves, not only as a means of obtaining loans which
normally would be denied by banking and lending institutions, but it also acts
as an investment that increases over time, providing more financial stability as
well as purchase power. (Micro-lending)
These are valuable options that more women
should consider as a solution to financial problems. They are certainly worth
discussing.
Other women find other ways of coping by moving in with children or having grown
children move back home to offset the expenses. Homes are once again
become multi-generational. This has many benefits from financial to
emotional.
If there are any unique solutions to these types of problems I would like to hear about them so I can share them with my readers. Please e-mail me at: editor@cactusventures.com subject: middle age
