The House on the Rock is more than a house. It is one man's dream come true. The gentleman who built it discovered this chimney rock and decided to build a home in and around the rock. He never held a permanent full time job during the construction of this home, which took a lifetime. He carried each piece of wood, each bag of concrete, each piece of furniture up to his site, spending his entire lifetime creating his dream. As word of his project spread, people started showing up to see it. Soon, he started charging 50 cents a head for a tour. People, hearing of his love of collecting the unusual as well as the normal, would send him items from their trips. It is all displayed within the House on the Rock.

You must see this! Your ideas and dreams will never be the same again!

This is called the Infinity room. It is built out over a deep gorge. It is suspended by cables and reinforced steel. The room seems to go on forever. At the very end of the room, is a glass floor with couches and chairs all around it. You can sit there and look down into the gorge, if you dare.

As for me, I am afraid of heights. My vertigo would not let me go past this bench. I could feel the room sway and that was enough for me. There is glass on all sides and an enchanting array of plants everywhere. It is just one of the many rooms in the House on the Rock.

One of the many collections you will find in the House on the Rock is this paperweight collection. Encased in glass and surrounded with a unique frame, it is just one of the many sights that will delight your eyes.

This room has an oriental flavor set off by a red sectional specifically designed for this room. It is built into the rock itself, hidden away in a cubby hole. A perfect spot for relaxing and getting away from it all.

The picture to the right is of the Carousel, the largest one in the world. It contains 8,000 lights and not one of the animals on the carousel is a horse. It is magical and holds a special place in the House on the Rock. For it is contained in its own room known as the Carousel room.

To the left is one of the many waterfalls and water gardens within the home. It is truly a magical place!
