"Surprise, Surprise, Surprise,"
(as Gomer Pyle put it), is the key to romance. If your relationship is in a rut it is time for you to dust off your imagination.
Everyone loves a little mystery. It's time to set the scene.
First, call your other half and verify his/her schedule. Impress upon them the need to be home on time because of some reason, (you create) and know they will accept. A meeting with a teacher, A visit from your pastor, whatever it is, it must be believable.
Your significant other is going on a treasure hunt and you are the treasure, So Create unique postcard size Notes, or 8 X 11 size posters that you can tape up throughout your home. Use the unique graphic capabilities of your favorite graphic program if you have a computer. If you are using a typewriter, Elmer's glue, glitter, colorful stickers, and markers can create messages that will draw their attention. This is where the fun begins.
Leave written clues for your lover to follow. Remind them that your instructions are to be followed exactly as you have written on the notes and posters. Your creative imagination can lead your other half all over the house in various stages of dress and undress while you settle yourself into a fragrant bath, waiting to be found.
(Don't forget to instruct them to stop by the fridge to pick up the bottle of your favorite beverage and appropriate glasses.)
If you have children, make sure they are otherwise occupied at someone else's home for the evening. There is no exception here.
Bring out your supply of candles & holders. Wait until 5 minutes before your special sweetheart is due home to light them
Potpourri, incense, essential oils heating in aromatherapy diffusers, whatever you have that will create a wonderful scent--use it.
Men, Purchase a sensual velour bathrobe for yourself, or one made of silk. Yes, men, I said silk. They carry them in the more expensive stores and specialty shops.
Make the bed with silk sheets or your favorite ones if you must. But I vote for silk. Everyone should have at least one set on hand at all times for special occasions.
Buy cut flowers and arrange around the house. If you have a master bath and bedroom, place your flowers there. The more, the merrier.
Women, purchase a sexy nightie just in case. You may not need it, but if you do, you want one on hand at all times.
Place chocolates (wrapped ones) on your pillows and soft music playing in the background.
Include a bucket of ice, cheese, grapes, or other snacks ready in the fridge or on ice in which ever room you plan to end your treasure hunt in.
Go have that manicure, your hair done, whatever pampering you feel you will need to look and feel your best. Then relax and wait. This will be the hardest part.
The front
door opens, there is a surprised pause of silence and your night begins.
