Wild life in the Carolinas

One of the first amazing animals I spotted just after moving to the Carolinas was the Blue Jay. It was the first Blue Jay I had ever seen. I noticed that he was a bossy little bird and very territorial. He was noisy and seemed to dominate the other birds who tried to ignore the commotion he was constantly making.

As you can see, there is S N O W - that four letter word which caused us to move to the south in the first place. It was January 1996 and it was the first snow in 6 years. (I'm sure it snowed just because we were there!). This was in Denver, North Carolina, near Lake Norman. That spring they also had the worst Ice storm in history, making it the worst disaster in the history of Duke Power. It did more damage than Hurricane Hugo did.

Our resident squirrel was very innovative when it came to raiding the bird feeder. He spent a lot of time in this position. One day we looked out and all we could see was a tail, waving above the top of the birdfeeder. His head and body were down inside the container.
