They say, life begins at 40. I am here to
tell you that it is true! Of course life can begin earlier or later, depending
on when the kids leave home... and then depending on keeping them gone
after they move out. I remember my son telling me one day, when he was about 10,
that he didn't want to grow up and go to college because he wasn't convinced
that we wouldn't just move, leaving no forwarding address while he was at school. I didn't tell him the thought had crossed my mind a
couple of times...but only a couple.
I am here to tell you that life does indeed
begin around that time. My life started in 1992... a little later than 40 and
not soon enough for me. It wasn't my children leaving home that triggered this
"life start", though the timing had a lot to do with it. My youngest
was 18, working and still living at home. I had done my job and gotten them
raised... now it was my time. Unfortunately my "life start" was
catapulted by a divorce, (of my choice), after 22 years of marriage. At the time
it was traumatic for everyone. Looking back I know now that I should have done it
years earlier, but that is water under the bridge.
My life is as different today from my
previous life as one can get. It took a lot of pain, growth, learning, failing,
screwing up, and being selfish for the first time in my life, to get to where I
am today. I will be writing personal stories of my "Life Start" in
hope that my experiences can help someone else. In the mean time, I am putting
together articles and information I think you might enjoy reading about. I know
they interest me.
