At age 7 &8, the world is a magical place, but not as magical as Grandmas' house. Christy looked forward to visiting her grandmother who lived in a small white house with a porch that went all around it.

What made the visits so special was that she knew her cousin, Sharon, would be there too! Christy and her cousin Sharon were more than cousins. They were best friends. They would climb the big apricot tree that seemed to fill her grandmother's whole back yard. They would climb high into the tree where no one could see them and eat the delicious golden fruit. Then, when they were sure that no one was looking, they would pretend they were pirates. They would lob a few of the greenish ones, pretending that they were cannon balls.

The two cousins loved to play circus on the big front lawn. Christy would always be the tightrope walker, because she loved to carefully walk the top rail of the long curving porch. But the most fun was when they pretended they were wild stallions, galloping and whinnying around the yard. They would stop near the berry patch and nibble a few berries just as a wild horse might do out on the open wilderness. They would paw at the sky and fight with their arms and hands clenched to make hooves and forelegs. They would prance and kneel in the cool grass and graze on all sorts of goodies from their grandma's garden.

At last they would flop to the ground in exhaustion and watch the cloud pictures roll buy overhead. Christy could hardly wait. Today she was going to Grandma's house. It was summer vacation and she would spend two glorious weeks with her cousin Sharon. She would have two wonderful weeks eating Grandmas' home-made jams and jellies. She would dine on Grandma's bottle fruits and vegetables. And she would help Grandma cook all sorts of goodies.

She was packed and in the car even before her parents had locked the front door. She sat in her special space in the back seat and buckled herself and her favorite doll into the safety restraints. The adventures was about to begin....
