Can Bigfoot really exist?

Yeti, Yowee, Skunk Ape, Sasquatch, Abominable Snowman, and Bigfoot are all names of what many (myself included) believe are a variety of humanoids, free in the wilds of the world. Why others believe, I leave to those others. For myself, there are a variety of reasons to believe such a creature could exist, and from the large number of reports, probably does exist.

First, is that we keep discovering "extinct" animals. When I was young, the Okapi was discovered to be very much alive. Earlier, the Coelacanth (a fish) thought to be extinct because fossils were found in ancient rock formations, was a part of the current diet of Madagascar fishermen. The various creatures are not seen as extinct or unnatural to the nearby peoples, and are therefore just not mentioned.

Second, animals in the wild are very hard to detect, especially by those who aren't in the exact environment repeatedly. For example, in one study done by the Wisconsin Fish and Game Department (now the Department of Natural Resources), deer were released in a closed, fenced area on one of the Apostle Islands, and seasoned hunters were asked to locate and photograph the deer. Many hunters participated, but very few of the deer were seen. Wild game can remain undetected because their very instincts have made them almost undetectable when hunted.

Third, I don't expect to find skeletons of deceased members of any species, because nature has a way of dispersing the carcasses of expired members. Ask any outdoorsman how many deer, bear, antelope, moose, elk, etc. skeletons they have seen in the wild, in all of the their hunting days. The scavengers of the forest dispose of the carcasses quite rapidly.

Fourth, there is an ancient, worldwide, thread of reports that continues to this day. While there have been some practical jokesters who have created false photographs and movies, there are many verbal reports from around the world that probably are accurate.

I suspect that in the not-too-distant future, there will be a BigfootCam set up to watch a suspected trail, and record all movement to a computer, that will catch the elusive creature in it's habitat, when man is not around to threaten it. I don't expect anyone with a gun to get near such a creature, because it has learned how to be well away from those whose actions include searching.
