Washington State Parks Maps
Goldendale is on the border of South West and South Central Washington.
If you head north on the road leading from the observatory on this map you will reach Goldendale one mile north. If you continue on this route you will reach Yakima.
Notice the Columbia River on the south of the map. It is dense forests. Below is the map of the South Central region which borders this region.

You will note Brooks Memorial, Fort Simcoe, and finally Yakima. I stayed in Yakima when I visited there. It is north of Goldendale. Note the Highway coming down to the south west to the bottom of the picture. That is the route taken from Yakima to Goldendale.
Yakima is about an hour from Goldendale. The area is high plains. Most of the pine trees are gone because of a disease that is attacking them. Goldendale is a flat, farming community. However, the surrounding area is pine forest. It is a short distance from the Columbia River.
