Bigfoot Whistles in the Central Cascades of Oregon
by Christine Bruun
Whistling seems to be one of the specific noticeable traits connected to Bigfoot Sightings. Many reports contain reference to whistling as a possible way Bigfoot has of communicating. The following post was sent May 22, 2000 and contain communications between three of our many visitors to the site. It certainly brings up many theories and scenarios that are worth discussing.
If anyone has any further information or reports about whistling, please send them to: bigfoot@cactusventures.com
I understand there is a lot of whistle and chirping associated with our big
hairy friends. Is anyone out there familiar with bird calls? Especially here
in the Pacific North West???
The reason I ask is that I had a bizarre experience about two years ago near the Three Sisters Mountains of the Mckenzie River area in Central Cascades of Oregon.
I was camped at a lake we had packed to, next to a closed BSA campsite.
We were definitely alone as we had special permission to be there from the BSA
and it was off season! It was in May and the snow had finally cleared in most
spots and the weather was warming up.
Anyway at dusk there was a long series of high pitched gruff, buzzing whistles that we heard adjacent to camp. We had camped close to shore bellow a rise that over looked the lake and our camp. The sound echoed around the lake and were fairly loud. Only three of the six of us heard it. It moved slowly along the bluff back and forth for about 45 minutes. A friend and I went to see what it was and it would move off away from us as we would get closer to the source.
It stopped shortly after dark, however it resumed at dawn and got very close to camp. When we felt comfortable to investigate there was no sign of any kind along the animal trail that traversed the ridge.
There was a cross path that cut through a thicket that had been recently used
by animals. We are all veteran hunters, trackers, and woodsmen and none who
heard it
could say what it was. It definitely wasn't elk, frogs, or crickets. It was
unlike anything we had heard previous or since?
Does anyone know of any reported sightings in that area from 1998 or 99?
How about any known bird or animals that would make this sound? I am trying
to remain objective about this and not brand it A Bigfoot encounter and
have been
thinking about it for the last 2 years. Bill Armstrong Portland, OR

How about elk, the female does kind of a whistle?
Though for Sasquatch, using whistles would make sense to communicate around
lakes, up and down--from the hill to the shores of a lake.
Whistles can travel quite a bit farther than mutterings, .and may be used for identifying locations, or food sources, if different members are foraging/investigating around the area.
This also is a good way of keeping track of members of the group, since the
individuals can travel quickly ...especially those silly teenagers. Maybe the
parents
should get them cell phones! ha.
One of our visitors was reading this report and e-mailed me to correct what he perceiveBob Holmstrom reported: "In reading the article about "Bigfoot chirping" and the reply from Reagan-- I am a woodsman, tracker and hunter in Oregon. Female elk do not chirp, the sound they make is a "MEW". I have been in the TRASK unit in the Coastal range and on several occasions I have heard chirps that I could not explains or identify. I will during the hunting season this year, be going into some areas in these units that I have not been before. I have reason to believe that there might be a bigfoot in that area. Again, on more tan one occasion in these units, I have heard the chirping, I have to say that the hair on the back of my neck was standing on end. I cannot identify it AT ALL, it is no known creature sound of any animal, I know of... I'll keep all posted of any findings in this area.
