The Brand New Charleston South Carolina Aquarium
Opened May 2000 on the Charleston Harbor.

It is a short walk from the parking garage on Calhoun Street, in Charleston's east side, to the new aquarium. We were greeted by a construction zone, lined by walls of artwork that was created by local school children. They decorate the unsightly look, and is only a hint of what lies ahead.

The aquarium entrance is decorated by a wall of water that flows over
brightly colored tiles to a cistern below the floor. It is a unique and
wonderful way to greet those who have come to view the exhibits.
A
small child stands with hands on hips, watching the water as it flows over the
tiles. It is a favorite spot for the new arrivals.
I found myself drawn to it and I just had to stand in front of it and watch the water glide across the colored face. The sound of running water is so soothing to the mind and spirit.
