An Update on the Bigfoot Sighting at Oregon Caves National Monument Park (July 12, 2000)

I went back to the Oregon Caves today and hiked the trail with Derrick Randalls from the Seattle area (i.e., a researcher from the North American Ape Project), Spencer Hughes (i.e., a radio talk show host from Sacramento CA), and a TV reporter from a Medford TV station (i.e., Channel 10 ˆ CBS). I showed them all the details concerning our encounter on Saturday, July 1^st. I was very impressed with Derrick‚s abilities out there in the woods. In a nutshell, in just a brief time, he was able to find a few large impressions created by a very large animal. He thought they were most likely Sasquatch impressions. He plans to take a crew back to the area and hike up and down the stream and into the back country to find more evidence (i.e., off the beaten path). It was a fun and scary time together on the trail. Later that night, I participated as a guest on Spencer‚s talk show for the 2^nd time in a week. He was broadcasting from Medford OR.

Three days ago, I received an e-mail from a gentleman who had hiked the same trail as we did, only four days earlier (i.e., June 27^th). He reported that he also smelled a strong stench and heard the same sounds. He‚s kicking himself for not reporting it. I also learned about a gentleman who worked at the Oregon Caves in 1975 (25 years ago) as a tour guide for the caves. He hiked the same trail and smelled a strong stench and heard the same sounds. There‚s definitely something going on up there.

Since our encounter on July 1, 2000, I have spoken as a guest on about 50 different radio shows around the nation, including Canada. Our story hit the national news around the country via radio, television, and newspapers. On Monday (July 10, 2000), I was interviewed on „The Early Show by Bryant Gumble‚s sidekick, Jane Clayson (spelling?) at 8:05am.

The public education crusade continues. I want to help play a part in educating the American public concerning the existence of Bigfoot.

Also, I want to see the social taboo against talking about Bigfoot disappear along with the social stigma attached that if anyone claims to have an encounter, they must be crazy or loony tunes. If we can get ridDr. Matthew Johnson
