The Question - Can Bigfoot be Killed?
by Christine Bruun
It has been brought to my attention that this article might be misconstrued and seen as "fueling the fire" that causes someone to shoot a Bigfoot because I make it to seem superhuman or paranormal. So, let me make my position very clear from the beginning.
I do not condone the killing of animals in general and specifically Bigfoot. Bigfoot is not supernatural. It is a living, breathing, flesh and blood animal. It can be killed just like any other animal or human.
In this article I attempt to explain proposed circumstances, which some perceived as proof of the supernatural, from a different point of view, which I stand by, based on the natural order of things, and that nothing is concrete. Nothing is guaranteed.
I attempt to place, in the readers mind, logical, alternative explanations for the scenario as it was portrayed to me, based on the natural, physical world of science, medicine, and natural healing, not supernatural occurrences.
This is, in no way, an attempt to condone or further the idea of the paranormal or of killing a Bigfoot.
Furthermore, it is well known by hunters that an animal can have enough adrenaline pumping through its body to allow it to take off after being shot and run for long distances before dropping. It is also known that animals, sustaining severe injury, will, and often do, find safety somewhere and hide while nursing their wounds or succumbing to them. It is not an unusual occurrence to have an animal disappear and not be able to find it after shooting it, or after being hit by a car or otherwise injured in some way.
Having said this.... let me again say that I am not condoning the killing of Bigfoot, but trying to address the issues raised by e-mail I received.
please read on.
Recently I received a post that presented the question - Can Bigfoot be Killed? I feel that it needs further consideration in light of possible over-looked facts that have not surfaced. I also think it is too easy to label it as a paranormal entity when there are other explanations which are much more plausible.
In the post, (printed on our Reports site), it gives several reported incidents where Bigfoot was shot at and, though obviously injured, it was not killed. The report goes on to state that this provides evidence that it is invincible.
I think there is a simpler, more accurate answer to the question posed.
It is a known fact that to kill a bear, one has to use a very powerful rifle and shoot it either in the heart or in the head. The bear has thick layers of fat that the bullet has to pass through before striking any vital organs. It takes a professional hunter to bring down a large bear. And, it is also known that there have been many wounded bears running around. Not one of those carcasses have ever been found. Hmmmmmmmmm
Let's talk about Bigfoot and his size. We are talking about a very large creature measuring seven to nine feet tall. His weight is said to surpass that of the bear. It's body is massive. Its strength is said to teeter on the unearthly. (again... not suggesting that it is paranormal, just repeating what some schools of thought have suggested. I do not hold with the school of thought that it is paranormal. Sometimes we place paranormal explanations on things we do not understand)
If we compare the two creatures, bear and Bigfoot, they have many similarities. I would suggest that they may be built similarly to that of the bear with muscle and fat layers between their hide and their internal organs. Something this massive would be hard to bring down with a simple hunting rifle. It is reported to be able to pick up a large deer and cart it away without having to drag it. Something that strong would have to have enormous muscle mass. (Again, let me state that I feel it is more human than animal and that is why I feel very strongly that it be treated with the same dignity and respect we treat humans).
Just like humans, when someone is shot, depending on where that is, we can heal ourselves, provided an infection does not set in. I suggest that Bigfoot, being part of nature may also understand the nature of herbal healing methods that help to heal and prevent infection. (Obviously a wound in the extremities is less threatening than one to a vital organ).
Dogs will often lick a wound, aiding in the healing process. If a simple creature like a dog can aid in its own healing, why not a Bigfoot? (Again, let me say, I am speaking of not supernatural means of healing, but of common sense herbal and instinctual methods that all animals and humans possess.
It is also known that even when shot, a human can escape and find its way to safety. It takes superhuman effort to accomplish this, but our own bodies aid in making this happen. Our bodies produce natural pain killers that numb the wound area, allowing us to not feel the injury until much later. This might allow Bigfoot the edge that allows it to make its get-a-way. (Again let me stress the adrenaline pumping through the body that allows an injured animal to run for some distance after being mortally injured.)
The body goes into shock and we feel no pain. This happened to me in a car accident. It wasn't until after I arrived at the hospital treatment room that I started to feel pain. Until then, I really didn't know I was even hurt. I had a deep gash in my knee from hitting the key in the ignition that was on the dash. I never felt it or knew it was there. I had a deep gash in my elbow from hitting something in the car. I never knew that it was there, nor did I feel it until I was sitting in the examination room.
The body is a real miracle and it protects itself in a crisis. Why wouldn't it do the same for a Bigfoot? Soldiers have been known to drag themselves to safety with horrific wounds, only to survive when most would not have. The mind has a lot to do with survival. Surely nature would provide ample incentives for survival.
Adrenalin can produce superhuman efforts. Think about the reports of a wife who lifts a car from her husband who is pinned underneath, or the man who rescues his child without realizing that what he did was impossible. The body again can aid us in surviving an ordeal that would kill most of us. It can give us the strength and the energy to escape and find safety to nurse an injury. (Animals have been reported to survive against all odds. However, this is in no way suggesting that is was paranormal events that provided the outcome. Perhaps it was luck and sheer will for survival.)
I realize that it is novel to attribute paranormal traits to our Bigfoot friend, but if we look at it from a more rational point of view I think you will find many simple, absolutely natural and physically possible answers to the question of Bigfoot's seeming invincibility. If it is cut, does it not bleed? If it is wounded, does it not feel pain? If it is shot, would it not try and find safety? If wounded, would it not crawl away somewhere to either heal or die in private?
(Again, I must impress upon the reader that I in no way condone the use of violence when it comes to Bigfoot and I do not want anyone to think that I am condoning the school of thought that Bigfoot is paranormal, because he is flesh and blood, more human than animal and therefore should be treated with dignity and respect and protected and studied, not harmed.)
