Chance Encounter Near Shasta and Trinity Counties

I don't know the exact date but in the 70's  during the gasoline shortage my husband and I were intending to go to Idaho to visit our daughter.  At Susanville, CA we decided that due to the shortage of gasoline we would return home to Weaverville, CA.  It was about 4 AM in the morning and still very dark.  

We were driving on highway 299 West going up toward the summit  at Shasta and Trinity Counties when on a curve going to the right a reddish-tan 7 foot creature stepped onto the roadway from our left, took two strides across the road into a ravine on the right.  

The name of the mountain is Buckhorn.  After about two more curves my husband asked me "Did you see that?"  I realized that he had seen the same thing I had seen and replied  "Yes".  I later called someone in Redding, CA and asked if there were Bigfoot sightings on Buckhorn mountain and he said that there had been.  I can still see the image in my mind.  

...The whole incident took just seconds.  As I remember Bigfoot didn't look at us, just strode across the highway.  It was illuminated in the car's headlights.  We were back far enough that I don't recall slowing down.  I would have to guess at the length of the hair.  It seems tome it would have been about 4 inches long.  IT was a reddish-tan color, more tan than red.  I did not see its face.  I just recall the size and the length of the stride. 

The highway is cut into the side of the mountain so it was going up hill and the area is heavily forested.  There are no farms and it is sparsely populated in that area.  The weather was clear and cold.  The car were driving was a VW bug and their headlights aren't the greatest but I would say we were probably 15ft or so from it.  I still have the image in my mind but it only lasted seconds so there isn't much to relay.  In two strides it was across the road on it's way up a gully on the other side.
