Jeff's Comments

Hats off to an excellent article. "What Do You Do For a Living".  I am a single dad of an 11 year old girl and a 4 year old boy, they are too precious for words. You are incredibly insightful, intelligent and have courage above reproach.  All of the things I've read on your singles pages are raw truth.  I identified with the status crap.  It really made me take a good hard look at how I got caught up in this unfortunate "Measuring Stick" of life, as a man.

I am ashamed of myself.  I too love writing, poetry and volunteering for the local homeless shelter.  So, I asked myself why? Why do I use such superficial meaningless crap, like what I do for a living, to determine my self-worth.

It's the above things I'm most proud of, not how many people I sold last month.  In many years to come, when it's "My Time" to check-out and I'm laying on my deathbed, with just me and me, I highly doubt that I will, even for a brief moment, wonder what kind of positive, personal change I would have made in the world if I would only have upped my sales quota another 27%.

I want you to know this, what I read tonight has, literally, changed my life as I sit here in tears.  I am ashamed, but I'm not a quitter and I am teachable.  I will continue to be the best dad I'm capable of, continue to treat people with respect and dignity and will hold a special place in my heart for struggling single mom's, and will never, ever again put more emphasis on what I do than on Who I AM.

Thank you for your wonderful pages.

Sincerely,

Jeff

What can I say, Jeff?  Thank you for the kind words. I write from the heart, and the soul, and from my own personal experience.   It is nice to know that someone actually "got it!"

You see, I have always said that if I touched just one person's life, I will have been a success;  Well, I am successful.  It  gives me the courage to go on and continue to share my own unique perspective on life.

And as you said in your story in our Tribute section of Singles Scene,  We have many opportunities during each day of our life  to touch  a life  and make a difference. These rare moments come and go, often without us even noticing them, as we go about our busy day self absorbed in our own private world.  It is wonderful that you have noticed the small  miracles  that are going on around you. The miracle is connecting to another human being, even if it is just for a moment in time.

I have no doubt you will be an excellent role model for your children.  Thank you for sharing this with us.
