Pennsylvania Man Has Actually Seen the Iceman!

I recently received an e-mail from a man in Pennsylvania who reports that he and his grandfather saw the Iceman in the 1970's.  The following is the actual report I received on October 31, 2000.

"I saw an exhibit that sounds exactly like what is described in your web page. It was sometime during the seventies.  I cannot remember the exact year, although my grandfather may, and yes, he is still alive. 

"It was he that took me to the exhibit to see the "Iceman". It was being displayed in what appeared to be a cross between a casket and an icebox.  It looked like a casket with a sealed, transparent window on top, was definitely electrically cooled, and had what looked like an ape man inside, frozen.

I have casually mentioned this over the last twenty years a few times and always received the same response. disbelief. No one I have ever talked to remembers hearing about this, but my grandfather and I remember it well.

The mall it was displayed at was named, "Eastland Mall", in East Pittsburgh, PA. off the route 30.  The mall has since closed, but I will always remember it. 

The creature was extremely hairy, like an ape, but it was no ape.  The eyebrows and the forehead were remarkably prominent and protruding.  From what I remember, the hair was longish allover the body, but the face was not as hairy as the rest of him.  The word "Caveman" continues to arise in my memory as I think back, because that is what it looked like.  Nose was maybe flatter and puggish as compared to a humans, but it was larger.  He was larger than a man, perhaps anywhere from 6 to 8 feet long, as he was lying down in the display.  I really wasn't interested in much else than the face, because about 85% of his body was encased in ice, except for the face...you could see the outlines and a few spots here and there of the rest of his body. 

He was definitely more muscular than an ape.  On a scale of 1-10, (1 ape, 10 human), I would rate it at maybe a 6 or 7...as I say, "Caveman" has always been my best description.  Slightly more human than ape, but primitive-type.  As to guessing the lineage or country, that's a tough one.  Maybe Eskimo?  But maybe at that time in my young mind, I associated the ice and the caveman together and somehow came up with Eskimo.  I don't know.  The facial characteristics were way more human than ape.  Like a caveman.  Strong, protruding jaw line. 

I do not remember any wounds on his face, and estimating the age of the thing, I would have to say maybe 20's or 30's.  I cannot recall if the teeth were more like an apes, but they were bigger than a humans and quite rotten.  Ever see one of those caveman rubber masks?  That is as close a description as I can probably give. 

There may have paid fees to the mall, but I distinctly remember no one around this thing.  No one charged us a fee, I didn't see any proprietor and it was not crowded.  It was like a display at the mall today, like a car, with no one paying it much attention.  I do remember thinking, "Why isn't anybody checking this thing out?" I had no interest in "Bigfoot" or whatever they call "it" but your site provoked some fond memories from long ago. 

The Daily News of Mckeesport was the Newspaper as the mall was in a town near Mckeesport, where I grew up.  Don't live there anymore. 

I happened upon your site by chance.  I was checking out the TV show "Survivor" fan's pages and came across a fellow  who refers to himself as the Yowie man in Australia who found the new locale for "Survivor II".  A link from his page led to bigfoot info and I stumbled upon your page and about fell over when I read it.  I am not sure if what I saw was the real thing or the fake, but I remember it well. We studied it through the glass for quite a while and it certainly looked like a caveman to me, only more ape-like and hairier.
