Urban Legends
Urban Legends are those stories that have been told for years around camp fires and at Keggers. They are those stories that are handed down by word of mouth, over the years, until no one knows if they are true or not.
They have been told and retold so many times that even if there was once a grain of truth to them, they have been mutated, shape shifted, and embellished to the point that we have no way of knowing if any truth still exists within its boundaries.
However, they are important, if for no other reason than, to create discussion. Within these Urban Legends may lie a grain of truth. We must dig deeply and peel away the layers to find that truth from long ago.
Over the Millenniums, cultures have handed down their history in the form of stories. These stories reflect the common thinking of that culture. Clarissa Pinkola Estes in her book, "Women Who Run With The Wolves" explains that these fairy tales and stories are important clues as to what was happening during the period the stories were first told. They are mirrors of our culture. Then to, the Urban Legends also reflect our culture. The stories have a lot to tell us if we stop and listen.
For this reason, I am including Urban Legends in our Sasquatch Watch site when they pertain to Bigfoot type creatures. Perhaps there is something we can learn from these stories.
